True Lies

James Cameron: Man of Tomorrow, Part V

After the massive success of TERMINATOR 2, James Cameron re-teamed with Arnold Schwarzenegger for a very different kind of action film: TRUE LIES.

A remake of the French comedy LA TOTALE!, TRUE LIES fused Cameron’s flair for large-scale action with sitcom-style domestic farce. The result? One of the biggest hits of 1994 — and a film that sparked plenty of conversation, thanks to its gender politics, wild stunts, and one unforgettable Jamie Lee Curtis scene.

In this episode, we explore the origins of TRUE LIES, how Cameron came to remake a French spy spoof, how he assembled his cast, and why this film remains his most light-hearted — and possibly most dated — blockbuster
