DAVID LYNCH: ABSURD ENCOUNTERS, PART VI

"Diane, 11:30 AM, February 24th. Entering the town of Twin Peaks, five miles south of the Canadian border, twelve miles west of the state line. I’ve never seen so many trees in my life. As W. C. Fields would say, I’d rather be here than Philadelphia."

After the success of BLUE VELVET, David Lynch had Hollywood’s attention — but not its full trust. Still reeling from the disaster of DUNE, Lynch remained skeptical of the studio system, turning down offers and pursuing personal projects that never quite got off the ground.

One of those detours brought him into contact with a writer named Mark Frost. The partnership didn’t yield a feature film, but it did plant the seed for something bigger — a TV show unlike anything else on the air.

In this episode, we dive deep into the story behind the TWIN PEAKS pilot — the now-legendary episode that introduced the world to Laura Palmer, Agent Cooper, and a sleepy Washington logging town pulsing with secrets. We’ll cover how Lynch and Frost pitched the show, what happened behind the scenes as the pilot was shot (both for TV and for an alternate international ending), and why this one episode helped redefine what television could be.

It also serves as a perfect lead-in to our Fire Shock With Me bonus series, where we’ll be covering TWIN PEAKS in its entirety — available exclusively on CinemShock+.
